Thursday at 6:30pm is another Quarantini class! This week's theme is Derby Day! Here's what you'll need & the drinks we'll be making! WEAR YOUR BEST HAT!
EQUIPMENT & INGREDIENTS:
Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, Tequila, Vodka
Blackberry Syrup* (Recipe Below - Make ahead of time)
Honey Syrup (2 parts honey to 1 part warm water - Dissolve)
Lots of fresh mint
2x Cinnamon Sticks
**Crushed Ice - Regular ice WONT work!! (Crush ice in a cheese cloth bag if necessary)
Julep cup/Mule mug/Rocks Glass
Proper Mint Julep
2 oz Bourbon (Woodford)
2 barspoons simple syrup
Fresh spearmint or peppermint
Club soda to top
Add fresh mint to the bottom of the glass. Add a spoon full of crushed ice and the syrup. Muddle firmly. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add the bourbon. Add a splash of soda and stir.
Basil Hayden’s Bourbon Thyme Julep
2 oz Basil Hayden’s Bourbon / Or any bourbon of your choice
1 bar spoon simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
6 fresh thyme sprigs (one for garnish)
Muddle fresh thyme in a rocks glass. Combine remaining ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir until cold. Fine strain into the rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a toasted thyme sprig.
2 oz Rye (Bullet)
1 oz grapefruit juice
.5 oz honey syrup
Shake it up and strain and pour into a martini glass, garnishing with pink peppercorns.
Cinco De Derby
2 oz Brut Champagne / Prosecco
1.5 oz Blanco Tequila
.5 oz blackberry cinnamon syrup*
.5 oz fresh lime juice
Combine all ingredients except champagne into a cocktail shaker, and fill with ice. Shake to chill and strain into a rocks glass over ice. Top with champagne.
*Blackberry cinnamon syrup: Combine 1 cup of water, 1 pack of blackberries, and 2 cinnamon sticks broken up in a small saucepan. Warm the ingredients on medium heat until the blackberries start to split and release juice. Add in 1 cup of sugar and gently stir to dissolve. Allow the syrup to cool down, then strain out the solids. Refrigerate for up to 30 days.
