The link between sugar and Alzheimer's

Want another reason to quit eating crazy amounts of refined sugar and sugar substitutes? Besides expanding your waistline and creating crazy highs and lows in your energy, sugar wreaks havoc on your body. Too much refined carbohydrates (processed foods, grains, sugar) can cause insulin sensitivity and eventually type 2 diabetes if left unchecked, as well as obesity. Studies are also finding links between high blood sugar and cognitive decline.

"People who have type 2 diabetes are about twice as likely to get Alzheimer’s, and people who have diabetes and are treated with insulin are also more likely to get Alzheimer’s, suggesting elevated insulin plays a role in Alzheimer’s. In fact, many studies have found that elevated insulin, or “hyperinsulinemia,” significantly increases your risk of Alzheimer’s."
